Jaakko Salminen, invited to the Startup Lions board, has worked in the startup world in various roles for over ten years. His background also includes eight years as an advisor and partner in corporate financing. As an angel investor, Salminen has been actively involved in FiBAN since its early days and has also served as the association’s chairman.
“FiBAN’s mission is to promote private individuals’ investments in unlisted growth companies, develop the profession of business angels, and connect ambitious startups with investors. During my tenure, it grew into an active investor community of nearly 700 people,” says Salminen.
Experience to support portfolio companies
Salminen’s international experience has been gained particularly in the United States and Germany. Living abroad has provided him not only with language skills but also the ability to operate naturally in international business environments.
“Living abroad gave me an understanding of how to work with people from different cultures. At the same time, I built networks within international startup circles. I am happy to help Startup Lions’ portfolio companies grow and internationalize by leveraging these networks.”
Startup Lions’ growth potential
According to Salminen, Startup Lions’ core team is currently strong: experienced investors and passionate coaches for growth companies. The portfolio includes several potential companies that can be developed to the next level. Startup Lions itself is also moving into its next stage of development.
“I was involved in a couple of software companies as a shareholder and in the roles of CEO and deputy CEO. Both companies were successfully exited. Helping startup companies from founding to exit is meaningful work, and it is where I want to apply my experience and time.”
